Dental Sealants in Bay Village, Ohio
The back teeth have chewing surfaces that have anatomical grooves (called pits and fissures). These grooves are difficult to clean as the bristles of the toothbrush are too thick to reach them and they catch food debris and promote the growth of bacteria that causes decay. Sealants protect the tooth by “blocking out” these grooves thus preventing decay.
The procedure involves getting a “tooth spa” where we first clean the tooth, condition it and paint the “sealant” to block the pits and fissures. Sealants are very successful in preventing decay and form a part of standard care for permanent teeth. We recommend it for primary teeth only if your child is at high risk for caries.
